Okay, I don’t usually go around broadcasting notes, but I was just curious. Thanks!

I thought by 'broadcasting' you meant re-posting? Or no?

Broadcasting is different than reposting. When you broadcast, you make the note visible to all the relays you are connected to.

Suppose a bunch of free relay operators choose to ban a specific user. If I am friends with them, we could set up a relay so that I see their note, and then I can broadcast it to the relays they are banned from.

How do you do that?

In Damus, you just long-press the note and choose Broadcast. It doesn’t appear to do anything, but it makes your note visible on the relays I’m connected to. It won’t boost your note to the top though, just makes it visible. So if you want to broadcast your friend’s note, you would have to do it immediately.

Thanks for this, handy to know

What does broadcasting a note mean?

Broadcasting makes somebody else’s note available on the relays you are connected to. 99% of the time you will never need to use it, but it keeps nostr censorship-resistant.
