Instead of migrating to Nostr—where you’re *not* the product, nor a slave to a closed-source algorithm—people are flooding to yet another Chinese-owned centralized platform.

The reality is that 99% of people do not actually care about censorship resistance and free speech; they just want their dopamine fix.

They do not care about “decentralization” or client optionality. In fact, they hate having options, because it forces them to make decisions, which are scary.

They do not care if they are a a slave to an opaque algorithm that influences them in unknown ways, as long as it continues to feed their dopamine addiction.

They just want to escape the drudgery of their daily life by scrolling ad infinitum.

If you are on Nostr right now, you are part of the 1%

You can’t save people who don’t want to be saved and you can’t fix stupid.

You know it's sad but true

Stupid is as stupid does, am I right?

People, for the most part, are sheep…simply wandering through life…

I doubt most people even know there are any other options.

Well somebody has to be poor in this world.

Ils ne sont pas prĂŠs de ce que est sur le point d'arriver.

They even used Red in the name. Has to be a punked episode.

Still in NPC mode 😐

However, nostr:npub15dqlghlewk84wz3pkqqvzl2w2w36f97g89ljds8x6c094nlu02vqjllm5m said it well in another context:

You need to have a need for it, otherwise you won't start looking into it

(can't rephrase it exactly word by word, forgive me :)

🎯 Dopamine hijacks the brain. They aren't making rational decisions.

You can take a horse to the water. But if their heart stops beating, it’s better to just dig a hole for them to lay in.

I see a lot of people complaining that Tiktok accounts aren’t migrating to Nostr. It seems like people don’t understand the appeal of Tiktok - it’s all about the promise of going viral through their unique algorithm. The goal on Tiktok is hoping to become “Tiktok famous”

They don’t care about integrity, or censorship resistance, or not being the product or proof of work. They just want easy fame, easy money.

It’s nuts. However, I suspect most mainstream people are put off by the techy / crypto flavor of #Nostr. It scares them. To them, it looks like just another one of those nerdy crypto chat places that popped up and will disappear again. If it was marketed with less crypto jargon, more like a decentralized social media “platform” and viable alternative to X I suspect it would hit harder. Having said that, do we really want to pull ALL the X crowd into Nostr? A toxic culture has developed on X that has attracted strange people. That engagement farming craziness had already killed it long before #Elon showed his true face.

what I think we need is a not algorithmic and decentralized type of TiKTok and people would flock I think

Sometimes I get sad and feel like young people spirits’ have been broken: living in a system where they see no bright future, addicted to shitty dopamine fixes since 5yo, and afraid of social interactions. It is a though hole to dig out of….

But I also see that more and more people are getting fed up of this and realize there is a better way of living and are looking for it. I think ppl like us who are (let’s say) “lucky” should do our best to SHOW this ppl how beautiful it is to live free of mental control, and by seeing it they will turn around.

I’m an untreatable optimist and truly believe the human spirit can be suppressed only for so long. I think the next decades will be very though but also so interesting and uplifting to live through!!

Innovations don't happen without capitalism in the first place, now we've been facing the combo of Digital Leninism and Surveillance Capitalism way worse than a simple Chinese-owned thing. We all should purplepill the people for the human rights✊

smart,people don't care freedom,they like moeny

Anything but gave the truth and responsibility of holding your own keys. People are sheeple. 🐑
