What's everyone's take on unions?

There is a big union striking around my neck of the woods and it's got me thinking.

I have personally never belonged to a union.

I'm just looking for honest opinions.

I am a union Ironworker of 20 years

I have worked with lots of different unions through my travels and I would say as a whole I am pro union

But there are people that abuse the system and play games with it I am all for being able to fire ppl for being lazy or not doing there work to the best of there ability

I think a lot of unions make it impossible to clean house unlike the Ironworkers if your a fuckup your down the road

When you make it near impossible to fire ppl your only hurting the union as well as the company’s they work with nobody has a reason to be better than the next guy

I think so far my main gripe with unions is the idea that one set of rules can be applied to all types of people.

I also find there comes a certain sense of entitlement that may not be warranted.

I'm all for people being compensated according to their work and output, but I hate seeing others make the same for doing less. Not communism, but feels communismy.

I like the idea that unions shouldn't be needed in the first place, but if you are in one and are treated well, then good, you deserve to be treated well.
