The “like” button is a shitcoin. It’s an unnecessary hit of dopamine, a fleeting pleasure, the twisted algorithm of the centralized social media. Zaps have meaning, purpose, and are more sincere. ⚡️

You want to limit interactions to increase transactions? Do you think this would be more sustainable for the nostr community?

It's not about limiting the interactions, it's about encouraging and making them more meaningful.

So basically, zap, reply, repost or boost would be the main interaction buttons? It makes sense, if I want to post an emoji or animated gif I can just press the reply button and send it as a note. Go ahead obliterate the like button.

Now, we're talking. And you don't have to zap 21, 100, 1000. Adjust your default zap, and change it based on your interactions... IMHO, this is a better approach to support and integrate Bitcoin into our daily lives.

unfortunately zapping takes 2 clicks and waiting for a spinning wheel to finish. it's much faster to "like". also i don't see notification for Zaps.

Try Primal and see how you like it.

I used to use primal since a slick surfer dude introduced me to it...but I like Coracle on laptop and amethyst on phone. "Primal" sounds sensual to me...maybe I'm thinking "feral" or something instead of nerdy online forums. Maybe I'll try again.

I do wish I could put in a default zap into the "like" button and reply button too to just identify my notes from spam/bots.

Primal definitely offers the best UI/UX for zapping and the custom zap feature works really well.

change the option from "like" to "reaction".

The Amethyst like options are quite expressive. I'm leaning to the idea that whilst likes are framed as dopamine hits, in reality, it's pretty weird to say something to a person or address a gathering and receive absolutely zero recognizable reaction.

Always the focus of " likes are bad" seems to be the idea that seeking approval is the be all and end all of posting, and that's dopamine seeking, therefore likes are less than optimal.

But not all chat is about seeking approval. Often we chat to try work through ideas. If you say something completely off base to a friend irl, you pick up on it by a deathly silence or strange look. Those signals help you think on what you just said. The crickets when you see zero visible reaction to a social media post is kind of inhuman and a disincentive. Especially with Nostr relays and the ever present thought, Is anyone even seeing this post?"

Posting takes time, effort and is an expression of where you are at. A nod of the head, a blank look, a wtf are you on stare....it all helps guide a discussion.

Zaps Reposts Replies Only

Exactly!

I treat them as tiers of interaction. A like is a way to show appreciation for a note, but zaps are my way of showing that I appreciate it in a more material and valuable way. I don’t see a reason to get rid of it personally.

Okay this makes sense but how about 1-5 sats to show appreciation and 5+ to appreciate it in a more material and valuable way?

Ya, honestly I’m open to that idea too. I could probably make better use of the presets in primal to do this.

Zap > Quote > Repost > Comment

At fifty level .. like has no meaning .. it was from the era when social media has hard time to get the comments organized in nice threads

Exactly!

And I don't think it is a protocol level thing .. clients have bent over backwards to enable this to catch up with other platforms ..
