Nostr retention rate of “real” users after their first 30 days. April was the lowest month so far. March was the 2nd highest.

IMO this is a chart we should all be paying attention to. This isn’t just about building good software, it’s about building good communities. People find out about nostr when it’s mentioned on things like Joe Rogan, but after arriving they don’t see anyone familiar. After 30 days, 80%-90% stop using it.

We are early, yes. We need more than software engineers. We need content creators, content curators, and generally interesting people. Hey…that’s probably you!

Feel free to share interesting things outside of the nostr discussion. And invite content creators you like to cross post their content here. #AlsoOnNostr #YourKeysYourContent

Discussion

Follow the people you want to see on nostr.

Follow them, engage with them, and invite others to join in.

it’s almost like communities know people off nostr and could invite them here; huge if true

😆 wen 🌙

Is there a list of different hashtags somewhere?

I think people don't understand how painfully slow it was to build your other social networks... Jeez I've been on Facebook since may of 2007!

Ah yeah, it takes a while. This isn’t a post of desperation. I often see comments from non programmers that wish they knew how to code so they could help build nostr. This is a way to build. We get to set the culture here. We get to do the inviting and welcoming. This is Fb in 2004.

nostr.band and primal.net are good places to look for hashtags and trending content. I’m sure more are working on it too.

Nostr needs to create the best incentives for content creators to create content here.

Nostr needs to be looking to steal marketshare from YouTube, twitch, onlyfans, etc by slashing those fees to participate on centralized platforms according to their terms of service and fee structure.

+ Inability to be deplatformed and thus have your stream of revenue interrupted for whatever reason

+ More money due to less fees

+ Their followers follow, get introduced to the network, the BTC/nostr/lightning networks grows

+Streamlined tipping, the sale of private keys to access encrypted content, user authentication, subscriptions etc

Build it and they will come

And I think to start, we need to get people to cross post. Go for the #AlsoOnNostr concept. The audiences aren’t here yet, so if a person is still welcome on YouTube and other places, keep posting there for now too.

Over time portions of their audience find their way onto nostr and begin interacting and zapping over here.

We’re seeing a similar thing with the #podcast crowd and #v4v. Podcasts that have done the traditional ad route are also adding value splits for lightning payments. Eventually the lightning incoming will grow and could replace some traditional ad space. #zapvertising

A fair observation.

It’s going to grow organically, personally I think the more on and off ramps exist and the lower the friction the better.

I prefer using keys and secure plugins like Nostore than using username:password for the web.

A single portable account is the future. I shouldn’t need 200 disparate accounts with 200 companies just for doing normal stuff online.

Add Bitcoin+lightning as payment mechanism and you just have more powerful protocols for building properties.

Agree with what you’re saying here. Lots of times when discussing nostr, people lead with phrases like “censorship resistance” and “self-sovereignty”. The peoples’ eyes glaze over at that point.

Instead I think we should focus on the concept and you have one user account that goes with you everywhere. Build your audience and they are with you on every platform. Feels like magic.

Add Value4Value on top of that, and now they have an audience that is sticky and can exchange value with them directly. #lightning #zaps

That's a fact!

I created an account yesterday and I'm having trouble finding familiar faces around.

Nostr has to pair with a strong competition. Let us not give up!

I'll share a personal experience that might bring some hope.

I created my Facebook account in 2007, when I lived in the US. In 2008 I came back to Brazil and nobody used Facebook, so I quit using it too. By 2010 or 11, everybody was using it, so did I.

Back then, the social media competition wasn't so hard, but keeping the good work, in time, people will start to use.

Bem vindo pra nostr! 🤙 Feel free to share some interests on #grownostr or #plebchain and you might find some people that way.

I appreciate your application of previous experience to what’s going on now. Patience and continued execution are needed.

Welcome!
