Did you know that if you visit any website to shop, there’s a good chance your visit is being recorded without your consent?

Some dude on the other end can watch you browse in real time, how long you look at something, where you click, what you type. Oh and if you make a purchase it’s enough information to tie your purchase to the browsing session.

This is all perfectly acceptable by the marketing industry and nobody bats and eye that maybe it’s wrong.

That doesn’t sound very nice at all.

That's why on nodeless we don't use any analytics software whatsoever, because creepy ass software actually does do this now

Same in the real world, cameras in stores can track all of your movement. For small private businesses I don't care, the problem is when it is done by governments, monopolies or industries. Group vs individual.

There’s no way all of this data is not sold to some 3 letter agencies.

Sold? Small private business doesn't have enough to sell, but you could argue that through central hubs 3 letter agencies still end up with that data.

There are data aggregators for small businesses that definitely mine and sell all of the data from physical store traffic. This is literally the business model of Foursquare.

Well, what is the solution then? VPN's don't work because they are looking for human behavior patterns.

If tracking scripts are blocked in the browser, by e.g. a ad blocker, they don't get to see the session I pressume. They could track you in other ways.

It's even more pervasive than described. Target can even tell when a women is pregnant before she even tells someone.

Nearly everyone I know has a story about how they were talking about something in their home and got served an ad for it the following day.

Yep true story that. Even the smart tv listens to you now

I blackhole all this stuff at home using pi-hole. I dispise the surveillance economy.

They’re not called ‘smart devices’ for nothing 😂

I just learned that AI can now transcribe your typing by the sounds of your computer keyboard, a whole new level of keylogger!

Did you know that Google Analytics provided that functionality from almost day one? I am still shocked people are not aware of that. And of course your credit card shopping history is a great source for ads targeting. And so many other things people do online or offline 🐶🐾🫂

I don’t think GA had session recordings.

It had visitor journey view that showed how someone moved their mouse and clicked on things. 🐶🐾🫡

Oh that. Yeah but not recordings nor live spying

Allow JS in your browser side effect... a double-edged sword

Are FANG engineers ever like:

Does duck duck go browser provide any benefit?
