i had to look up the difference between "a cult" and the "occult". Cult sounds like a pyramid scheme, which is tempting to join when one needs money (Tupperware sales, Mary Kay, etc). i don't remember if tupperware actually is one.
I suppose there could be a cult that could be a pyramid scheme built around the occult where such knowledge is monetized in a systematic way.
either way, if the knowledge reference isn't open source, and they follow up with phone calls...probably good to skedaddle.
Actually this one seemed to be pretty open. I don't get the impression its a mystery pyramid scheme. Just... Weird. And wrong. They think Jesus and Mary Magdelene taught tantric sex.
In its simplest form, there's nothing wrong with the occult. That just means hidden. "A cloud occulted the sun." - is a perfectly reasonable sentence. So just being a scientist is being an occultist. It does go off the rails with cults, though, because a cult oftentimes becomes a psychopath's little captive group which they feed off of in some way.
