Unpopular opinion: What if all the bitcoin plebs who need to be here are already here, and we don’t actually have to convince anyone else? Maybe the real flippening happens when the rest of the world who has never used either bitcoin or the bird app discovers Nostr, starts zapping, and becomes the next wave of adoption.

Like bitcoin, people will come when they’re ready.

No need to push. 🧔

That’s exactly what we need. Less circle jerk, more global adoption.

I am curious how the next wave comes. After all, nearly all of my favorite follows are already here, I don't know that we'll have the same exponential adoption trend continue.

Additionally, a big part of the reason I love this place is because of the bitcoiners.

I think it will be a good challenge to welcome no coiners in a way that doesn't put them off to the beauty of decentralization.

Yeah. At this point I think it’s a matter of design for profile creation. The ease of starting with nostr is undeniable compared to other services. Every thing that currently takes time to do (like linking images or videos) that can be minimized into 1 tap goes a huge way.

one tap zaps, one tap zaps, one tap zaps (on Damus)

What technical challenges exist before we can fully integrate wallets, or at least connect them in the background so there is only a single-app experience?

I've abandon all other social channels for these novel punk rock thrills.

profile pic and banner makers….obviously allow any pictures but a generative AI tool built in would be bad ass. i could see automation of the profile pic w an oboarding question like ā€œdescribe your spirit animal. include as many descriptors as possibleā€. wa-laa, new user has a custom profile pic of their inner self

By now at least some portion of the population has used a seed phrase, even people who have never used bitcoin but have NFTs somewhere. If the nsec can be presented as a seed phrase from within the app during onboarding we can at least help new users store their backups more easily.

You don’t even need to create a password. I hate passwords!

No, but you have to learn to treat a private key with the respect it requires.

Still, no passwords šŸ˜

private keys will become part of peoples identity

Well… I cannot stress how difficult a setup it is for people to onboard to Nostr and bitcoin and to keep keys safe. My ex is a tech product manager and she couldn’t figure it out. The real adoption happens when things are as simple as signing up for an email account and key recovery is as easy as password recovery. All of this has to happen in a noncustodial manner.

I hope @jacks hardware wallet makes things easier. Mini scripts should help add some functionality too.

I had another thought to add today. The biggest obstacle for most people to move to Nostr isn’t that they would have to learn a new technology. That happens all the time. It’s that they would have to change their self-perceptions and attitudes toward others.

I’m guessing the masses don’t even know what public/private keys are yet and those long numbers look scary to them. ā€œAccount Usernames and Passwordsā€ make sense to them. Might take another generation to pass for the masses to adopt? But I’m hypothesising here…hopefully quicker! Good UX and UI onboarding pretty key too.

It might even be simpler than that… To me it’s a social dynamic. If their friends are here, they’ll come.

Change is a bitch for many….

I use Twitter as a news source and bookmarking tool, to ā€œlistenā€ I’ve invested a lot in following certain people. Transferring that set up to Nostr isn’t automated it’s a PITA. Same with setting up everything new here, from profile pic to a LN wallet whatever. Switching costs are friction on top of leaning the new tech.

Purple pill is the new orange pill

Maybe someone makes a client that caters to different niches and we would never interact with them, but they use the tech, and you know what I'm okay with that

LETS GO.
