A successful 34% attack is also not good news. If they got 51% of the block rewards with only 34% of the hash rate, then the "honest" miners might lose money and choose to stop mining and that means the attacker can get to 51%

A pool with 34% of the network's hash rate finding more than 50% of blocks over a short period of time means nothing. That's just pool luck same as in Bitcoin. However, we'll have to see how this pans out. One thing is certain, Monero isn't going anywhere. Imo anyway.
