I still don't pay for media hosting.

I've been using nostr 100% free as a normie would the past 2 yrs.

(Other than what I zap out for support/fun)

But they'd catch on eventually...

Its definitely been an interesting experience being left out of alot of things being built from forced use of sign in extentions that wouldn't make sense to the average person joining and having what privacy and security I need picked for me...

And I'm not complaining. I do know and understand how to use and do things, but regular people would not, especially with how fast nostr changes.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think nsec login is the baseline middle ground that should be supported in all things built.

Above that, The people who need or want more privacy or security could pay for those services.

(I think this was a big opportunity missed by devs in the past to earn stable income to keep building new things too)

And below nsec login.... and you wouldn't even have a nostr account.

For a TikTok like client you have to upload video and pay for hosting

(Yes, I understand SOMEONE has to pay for hosting all the files)

But why can't folks just use nostr.build to upload for free as I have above?

How does nostr.build make money from the tiktok client and dealing with the data?

Sell Adspace to businesses(similar to what FB does at the bottom of videos)

Oh, you don't want ads on your videos eh?

Pay $12/mo, and well never put another ad on your NosTok videos.

(Then they still have the option to actually buy a nostr build account ontop of that if they need it)

The "you gotta pay to post here" will never work. People want the opportunity to earn money online for content and are now to used to places for such being free. So if what we do isn't free to use, it's doomed from the start.

(Just my opinion)

I believe it should be the viewers who pay, not the video creators.

They can pay once there’s something to look at

"...Maybe I'm crazy, but I think nsec login is the baseline middle ground that should be supported in all things built. "

I think the devs pulled back on the nsec login too soon. ultimately it needs to be replaced, but without it user access to nostr is choked. The user that does not trust entering an nsec into an app is not going to trust entering it into a plugin either, and the user that does not care is just going to be annoyed that they need another app so that they may not even get to a first post.

Early nostr was slick, click new account and post in two secconds. That experience is profound.
