Sovereign tech won’t work if it relies on users to run and maintain servers. With nostr we can offload application data onto commodity relays. This is its strength and we should leverage that. “Just run btcpayserver and woo commerce “ is not a reasonable solution for non-technical people. nostr democratizes access to freedom technology. nostr:note1h7d804wmmzgg67qywjj4n59pe85thlysglnaghgk3v3xv65qcllsjugxw3

Say it out loud and a lot more.

You're so smart and have great hair.

😂

Honestly as a technical user I don’t want to run or maintain servers either. If i had an ecommerce admin client app and web storefront client, this is all i want and need.

Being able to track orders, fulfillment, payment statuses without any server code. Would be amazing.

Yes as a non-IT /computer science guy, that is learning to run my own general server to learn on , it can be overwhelming at times trying to navigate all the ways of doing it. And probably more so for a small business that your payments/income depends

I disagree. I make compture systems at my other website that allow no tech users to be digitally sovereign (sovransystems.com). We have to increase our efforts to continue to create better sovereing computing systems for everyone.

Can relate...setup btcpay server on a lunanode VM about a year ago for my webstore, initially I was very excited about it and it was an excellent learning experience...in hindsight though, it was a huge time suck for me personally, for something that ultimately handled zero sales and I shut it down...i'm not afraid to dig in and wing it (and probably break things) but theres only so many precious hours in a day as it is and I need to be frugal in picking my battles. On one hand I believe sovereignty requires a personal investment, its not supposed to be easy or free. But on the other, the reality is that this stuff needs to be easy plug and play in order to attain mass adoption.

Exactly

Not to mention I also lost more sats than I am willing to admit when closing that particular lightning channel, lol. That is where my comprehension failed apparently haha...Cost of learning I guess. But we are still very early and this is one thing worth the patience imo

Keep pushing! We are with you.

Yesn't. Relays still have to be maintained by someone. The same goes for shopify backend. The fact that you are not the one maintaining it doesn't mean that it doesn't have to be maintained.

Pushing whole e commerce sites to the relay means that the relay operator would need to maintain a site (possibly not only one) for someone for free or litteral pennies

Relay operators are already running those relays.

They don’t have to do anything special and aren’t obligated to do anything special with any particular event over another. That’s on the guy setting up their e-commerce site to use a diverse enough set of relays to overcome any one relay’s issues.

I imagine a basic e-commerce site using Nostr is listing stuff out represented as events and zapping stuff you want to buy. There are a constant stream of kind 1 posts that are infinitely heavier than that going on day in and day out.

I remember awhile back you said you were keen on using SimpleX as an example of how to reduce spam and make Nostr more private. Just curious if you are making any progress on that?
