Yeap, sleep/hibernate has always been an issue for my Linux laptops.

These days I just turn them off rather than brother with it. It encourages me to use my more ergonomic desktop when at home, and ensures my data is encrypted, so it's safe in my bag on the way to the next meeting.

yea but this happens too when i have set up laptop to just lock the screen

Oh damn! Sorry that's not happening here.

Maybe desktop environment related? Or because I don't use a screensaver and just sleep the display, so my screens are still turning on when you're experiencing this security hole.

Perhaps a hacky workaround if that's the case tho?

im on LMDE, will xheck the screensaver settings

Which distro / desktop environment are you using?

I have experienced this problem before. Maybe I can help.

LMDE

So there is something you need to realize about Linux Mint. If you value privacy and security then you need to get off of it immediately. It is a shady distro that is not trustworthy. Install the application etherape, run it with sudo from the terminal, monitor the network traffic on first boot without opening any applications. Make notes and investigate all the connections it makes to discover why. Don't panic. If you need help finding a new distro let me know.

Second, which method of suspend are you using when you look in the system settings?

now its set on lock screen, turned off screen saver too

Oh really, what do u recommend then?

What do you mainly use your computer for?

Are you emotionally tied to Cinnamon and want to keep it, or are there others you would be willing to explore?

Are there any Linux Distros that you do not like?

These answers will help me help you.

any distro recommendations? I'd imagine that debian is better. Also I've tried multiple distros, solus is one of them which i could see myself using it.
