Thanks to everyone that has brought it to my attention that I have several impersonator accounts. Imitation is the highest form of flattery! I hope they repost this!

I wish there was more I could do (cAn’T tHe DeVs Do SoMeThInG????? what about the CEO of nostr?) other than ask everyone to continue to pay attention to the NIP-05 identifier and corresponding check mark. If it’s not satsie@bitcoindevs.xyz, it’s not me.

Someone impersonating you actually messaged me here recently...

One possible solution could be for clients to show a clearer warning when an account looks like a known npub but doesn’t have a verified NIP-05 and sends a DM. A visual alert or color tag could go a long way in reducing confusion.

Glad you are calling it out, we must alert new user's!

Yeah! I think there is an opportunity here to build some unique features to solve this problem. NIP-05 goes a long way IMO, but not everyone has one, and impersonators could start buying domains and setting up their own NIP-05 identifiers. It would be costly for the scammer but a single domain could be used for an immeasurable number of impersonator accounts, ones that target multiple victims 🤷🏻‍♀️

Totally agree though that there are UX improvements that could go a long way, similar to how Twitter really pushes you to only look at notifications from verified accounts.
