almost all monero people control their private key, do self-custody, and use the damn thing. you can even say the same thing about most ethereum people. and they are insistent on upholding it as the standard of behavior.

almost no bitcoin people control their private key, do self-custody, or use the damn thing. they mostly leave it in full custody. you are lucky if the person occasionally squirrels some UTXOs under their mattress and does absolutely nothing with them. bitcoin nostr community is representative of only a fringe corner of the "user" base.

out of all the people I ever met in real life who had only interacted with bitcoin, more than half of them lost their private key. they are stupid and don't get it and don't want to understand. but if I count up my friends and acquaintances who resisted the disease known as bitcoin maximalism, all of them were more diligent about protecting their private keys. they could also do a much better job at articulating how the technology works and what it can do, unlike the maxis, who invariably just dreamt of selling their bitcoin IOUs.

Want to use Monero? Have at it.

Do not compare the two. Different classes. One is an asset, upon which a lot of the future depends. The other is a firecracker shiny object that's cool and trendy.

Using shitty arguments with absolutely no statistics to back it up other than your life experience (which may or may not be embellished for emphasis) and shouting it loudly doesn't make it facts.

Facts are your privacy concerns are moot with #lightningnetwork

As for idiots who lose their keys. How's that even an argument against #Bitcoin? Or even the #Bitcoin community? There are degens everywhere and in every demigraphic pool on earth. You simply sound like a guy/girl/Zher that is trying to construct an argument that #monero users are somehow more organized and hence, smarter than a Bitcoin user?

I mean, what is the actual point of your blurb?

Lightning is not as private/anon as #monero (onion routing won't save your ass from a global passive adversary, and that's just the tip of the iceberg).

Also, payments regularly fail if you don't have a direct channel to the destination, when the payments are just a few thousand dollars.

Also, it requires every node along the way (indeed, the whole network) to have the funds sitting on an always-online hot wallet.

Also, most lightning users don't even use it non-custodially.

Of the few who do, almost everyone uses a LSP, because it's a pain in the ass to manage your own node and your own channels.

Finally, it is a regular pattern that even the very small minority of bitcoiners who actually use it for payments, overwhelmingly and puzzingly use onchain payments, not lightning; here is an example from today:

there are multiple reasons why DNMs overwhelmingly prefer monero over bitcoin and not a single one of them has ever accepted the lightning network. some of the reasons don't even have anything to do with privacy. you sound like you are the one who doesn't get it. I'm glad the administrators of DNMs don't listen to stupid people like you.

Lightning is harder for the average user to use privately. Monero is much easier. That's why most are on Wallet of Satoshi and other LN custodians who can see everything they do.
