GM,friends! My computer is really about to die anytime soon. I need a new laptop 💻. Which one should I get? I’m thinking of getting a new MAC but Apple drives me insane sometimes. Any advice of what should I do is welcome. I need a new machine to work too. So it must be a good one. 😐😓

morning

Morning☕😊. I quit buying new machines a few yrs ago. I just buy used Lenovo Thinkpads, wipe Windows off, and install Linux. I get a "new" laptop for $200-300 usd.

Just did this too, can recommend. Price wise you can't beat it. Amazon has a ton of them.

I got a dud on my first go (bad screen). Sent it back and got a machine that is like new!

I’ll do that 😂 had totally forgotten about Amazon

Yeah in Canada its like Apple - always good but pricey and Apple being Apple. Or Best Buy/Staples if you want a sub-tier HP or Asus.

That's why I finally caved and got the used ThinkPad. Top of the line but from 2020. Works for my needs at least!

BestBuy and Staples are trustworthy? Do you think getting something refurbished is a good deal?

I stay away from BestBuy and Staples personally.

Used is a good deal in that you're getting a computer that is built well and at one point was top of line. Disadvantage is often the battery is heavily used.

Good thing is that with ThinkPad that can be replaced when you're ready

if youre getting an older/used mac DONT get an intel mac

Good morning. If you don’t mind Linux, take a look at Systems76.
