Ouch. I just got hit with a $13k quote on surgery I need. Major ouch. Healthcare kinda sucks.

That sucks
America sounds nice
It’s cool here because your boss gets to tell you if you’re allowed to see a doctor, and if you’re unemployed you they just say good luck, bro, drive carefully.
The insurance here only covers $2000 in a year anyways, and I don’t have it because they refuse to bring me on as anything other than contract labor.
That some bullshit, brother.
Sounds super nice, I'll pass.
I think I'm a european socialist for life, I like to walk in the city.
There are more MRI machines, e.g., in Philadelphia than in all of Canada. Yes, prices are inflated because of government interventions in the healthcare industry, regulatory capture by Big Pharma, and inflationary monetary policy - but at least we still have better access to services needed than places like England with the NHS. No 9-month wait for cancer care, etc.
But I grant the point that it could be better. It should work more like auto insurance: cash for routine maintenance and insurance for unexpected / catastrophic events. It should be Health-as-a-product, not Health-as-a-service ("sick care"). 🤙🏼
It’s not ironic to me that the guy who was publicly getting people censored is a fan of socialism
They gave you a quote?! I’ve never had that. It’s always been a guessing game with what insurance will cover.
It’s an estimate. When you’re uninsured they’ll figure it out to make sure they get their money.
I don’t know the procedure you need but my recent medical bills say 13k is super cheap for surgery.
