What is your thoughts on using alternative Bitcoin L2 implementations besides Lightning such as Liquid? #AskNostr
Discussion
Not really the answer you're looking for but to be honest, I dont even really like lightning. 🤷♂️
I don't blame you. It made BTC too complicated.
Yea for the occasional times I use it for purchases, onchain is more than fine compared to lightning node headaches I always hear from anyone running one. Was happy with Phoenix before they jumped ship for no reason and def not trusting them again after that. But when it really comes down to it, I prefer monero anyway.
Why?
as long as lightning works as well as it does (for me...can't speak for others), i won't go for the tradeoff of custodial btc with federated ownership vs. lightning batched payments with a unilateral exit option.
for those reasons...

I tried liquid and deleted it.
On top of that, I purchased Jade Plus, and found it difficult soI stopped using it.
Nonetheless, I still make use of the atomic swaps from boltz for lightning and run a CLN node for bolt12 offers.
What are "atomic swaps"?
In my opinion Liquid (elements) is extremely underrated.
People do not yet understand the advantages of the tradeoffs in a federated model.
You get MANY of the benefits of a centralized system with many of the benefits of a distributed system.
And all the while you can fall back to the base layer when you feel you need to.
Elements based systems will likely be a big part of the future.
Aqua Wallet makes it pretty damn easy to onboard people with an on-chain wallet that can also use LN via Liquid. ... Between that and Strike, I'm not even using any of my 3 nodes for LN these days. 😆
My favorite BTC L2 is Monero. It's fast, very secure and private, low TX costs and very reliable. 😎
Necessary since current layer 2 solutions (in my very bad opinion) utterly blow.
But I think liquid is probably better than lightning.
Simplication and reliability with less dumb stuff needed for self-hosting is necessary.
