I use LND. However, if I were to start over right now, I'd pick Core Lightning. It has cooler plugins and tools. After you have Core Lightning installed, I would recommend Thunderhub to help manage your node. Ride The Lightning is good too, though I just have 5 minutes of experience with it. LNBits is something you can dive into after you get all of your channels up and running.

Thanks! So this may be a dumb question, but if I choose Core can I open up a channel with you since you’re on LND? What constitutes a cool plugin for lightning? Things like auto-balancing?

Yes; the implementations (Eclair by ACINQ, Core lightning (CLN) by Blockstream, and LND by Lightning Labs; plus LDK by Spiral/Block which powers many mobile apps) are all interoperable

👍 Which do you use and why?

Run both LND (had the longest) but later opened a CLN node.

Our own @jb55 (Damus doesn’t do auto suggest and I don’t have time to go copy paste pubkey sorry) wrote the commando plugin for remotely controlling your CLN node . Lots of accounting/bookkeeping , rebalancing, probing, monitoring plugins at https://GitHub.com/lightningd/plugins
