Dearest nostr, I have question about where is the best place to host content? There are lots of options out there like Patreon, rumble etc. But starting it here and pointing everything else (YT etc) back to nostr seems a better strategy. I know it’s a zap to play environment it just seems smarter to begin with the end in mind.

I admire your spirit...what type of content are you aiming to produce? If it's bitcoin stuff especially, you can count me in as a future zapper....

As a boomer, business owner, retired first responder and multi skilled at some stuff I have some skills I’d like to educate, pass on, entertain but generally add value to friends in this space. I recently got my nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll pure going and that’s got me fired up more 🔥

Most of my content will be video but not all. And if I could have some pay for content it would also be helpful. I have a pre coiner friend who does this but his is WAY more complicated than I want mine.

I have to ask, would starting my own relay so I can host my own content a smart idea or no? Kinda wanted to free of most everything charging monthly. Can you tell I don’t know what I’m doing? 😂

What type/format of content? Video? Written? Photo?

Pretty much all three

For written content, nostr clients/apps handle it well natively, especially if you use one of the longform article apps such as Habla.news or Yakihonne. I’ve used Habla more, but Yakihonne recently put out an update that I’ve seen some good reviews about. These articles are published to relays and many of the other nostr apps automatically show them to your followers. They are also web based, so you have nice web links to share on other platforms.

For photo, nostr.build and Satellite.earth offer great hosting plans and integrate well with nostr apps. Nostr.build costs a little more, but offers more features for managing your uploads. Satellite.earth is more cost-friendly, but fewer features.

For video, nostr isn’t the greatest yet but it’s getting better. You can upload video files to nostr.build or satellite, but no one has built a very good way to organize them and display them to your followers where they are viewable and searchable as a catalog. My recommendation would be to post casual social videos and short teaser/trailer videos to nostr, and use Rumble and YouTube for your catalog. Hopefully that gets better.

Nostr is also becoming a great place to share audio content. Fountain and Wavlake have fantastic apps for that.

Hope that helps.

Been looking at arweave this week and, for the price, seems to be the cheapest and most resilient for static content. (still a Maxi, but a tool is a tool)

Nostr.build is good and you can pay in sats but a little steep for my liking.

You can self host a blossom server for images and video. Not sure if this is on start9... YET!

Flare.pub was a thing for a while but I have not seen it in a while.

Thank you
