To be fair I think legally he need to KYC otherwise donations could be coming from Russia, China etc. I was surprised he put up that QR code at the conf. Anyone around the world could have (and I assume still can) send him btc to that address and he would be in violation of what I understand is US law against accepting political donations from foreigners.
