It’s perfectly okay to be proud of your country. That doesn’t mean you support the government.

The government is not your country, it is just the cancer living on its land, sucking its wealth and slaving its citizens.

I completely agree! Many people don’t understand the difference between a country and its government. Being proud of your land and culture is one thing, but accepting the corruption and oppression of the government is another.

Nation > Govt

"A patriot supports his country always but its government only when it deserves it" - now Ben Franklin said that and I think it made sense for small, sparsely populated countries like the original 13 colonies but how can anyone assume that giant countries like France, India, China, and the united States have anything like common culture and heritage from North to South and East to West? Most "nation states" are simply the result of however many territories and peoples some government past or present was able bring under their exclusive control.

I always wonder is proud the right word? Can you be proud of something you had no influence over?

You can have influence over the people, businesses, organizations

True, but a country is something different. The country you life in came to be from the past, which no one of us alive had any influence over. Might be proud of some people you influenced, but yeah thats it imo
