It’s funny, you’d think in an island with a long sea faring history such as england people would know the difference between a rubber dinghy and a small boat? Well apparently not.

Vast swathes of the country losing their shit over a few rubber dinghies and some unrelated Welsh bloke. Weird.

What is the context for this?

The context being that the news for the last couple of years has been about the multitude of 'small boats' arriving on the South East coast. However, the reality of the South East coast is very different to what's reported. Migrants typically arrive on rubber dinghies, these are vastly different types of craft, way flimsier and dangerous than traveling on small boat. There's been quite a few deaths in the channel, barely reported. Each boat carries around 30 people on crafts designed for approximately 10 passengers.

Notable media outlets, politicians and football hooligans gaining significant reach on platforms like X, Tik Tok and YouTube amping up hostility. I curious where they're getting the funding for that reach? Being a football hooligan isn't exactly an earner. Does anyone still believe in organic reach on these platforms?

Now idiots draped in flags are running around setting fire to hotels, Mosques and independent shops because brown people.

At least folks are revealing themselves. The upside of free speech.

Politics aside, in the nautical world, a dinghy (rubber or otherwise) is a type of boat. Considering how small they are, referring to them as "small boats" is technically correct.

Politically speaking, we seem to be in agreement, so no argument from me there.

Small boats has strong meme value in the UK due to the Dunkirk Rescue in WW2, Little Englander types love it! Rubber dinghies is more accurate.
