ive been using it for 6 months, started over with a new keypair today and took me hours of fucking around with settings and relays on multiple clients just to be able to follow people so that i could populate my feed.
and i don’t even know what i did to make it work or whether it just started working on its own
Which client did you start with?
damus and nostur. both doing the same thing, when i would go to follow someone the follow button was greyed out and unclickable, until it wasnt.

here is a ss i took of me trying to follow some random account on nostur with the follow button greyed out. surely not helpful for you but at least u can see 
Will tag nostr:npub1n0sturny6w9zn2wwexju3m6asu7zh7jnv2jt2kx6tlmfhs7thq0qnflahe to see if he knows what might have caused it to be greyed out. My guess is a relay issue 🤷♂️
