The namesake of Texas's capital Sam Austin was from Austinville, Virginia, and moved to Texas.
"More elbow room" perhaps?
The ideas and traditions seem to grow stronger in the steeper valleys and hollows.
There's a certain freedom in the western expanses. I like the beauty of Virginia, but it feels stifling sometimes.
What I really want is some of that federal land that's really mountainous. They're sitting on 40% of our land....
I was just in that area of Tennessee ,North Carolina, and Virginia.
