Would’ve been big if they be like fuck it this baby is 999 and have people loose their mind and preorder it like hot cakes. They’ll loose money for sure, but when you get a new concept device into lots of people’s hand, you’ll probably have ways to monetize it later on.

Yes. I am somewhat surprised they didn't try the XBox/Playstation model of selling at break-even or a loss, then recouping on the software + content, but then, that's not the Apple Way.
If Steve Jobs is still here, I think he might have the balls to do it. He did it with the early macs, which got him kicked out of the company.
