on our notedeck call this morning we've decided to introduce a new zap spec for zap replies.
The idea we're going for is a way to associate the zap request with the reply. when the zap is received, the reply is decorated with the zap, and the zap is put to the top of the thread.
We are removing zap comments, since those are spammed with default messages these days.
what this looks like to the user, is that you have the abilility to click a zap button when replying. when you pay this zap and make the comment, your reply looks special (gold/highlighted). it's then considered a "zap reply".
if the payment doesn't go through it looks like a regular reply.
interesting! does the OP get to set minimums or anything like that? or should we expect torrents of 1 sat "gold" replies on notes?
yes a user-set minimum might be a good idea
Isn’t this better done with BOLT 12? That way a sender/responder could make the payment and include proof-of-payment in the same note as the comment itself. Anyone can trivially verify the proof of payment by looking at the recipient’s profile and there’s no need to have multiple notes flying around for one comment.

I think me re-defining the term "boost" confused you there. I was suggesting a way to boost notes not by re-tweeting them but by paying in favor of them.
Right now, the situation is that when I re-tweet an old note, everybody sees it but when I zap it, nobody sees that except the recipient of the zap. I want a zap-boost but to also be able to zap-boost my own notes, I suggested to have the zap-boost linked with a donation to our infrastructure providers like yourself as a proof of sacrifice to avoid self-zapping for visibility.
