Thoughts about follower counts on nostr. On my phone, I don’t have any way of knowing how many people have saved my phone number/email addresses/etc. in their contacts. And even if I could know, it wouldn’t really have much meaning. What I do know, and what DOES have meaning to me, is that I can quickly access and keep in touch with the contacts that are most important to me. My phone even shows me who I’ve called and texted recently, and has a favorites list, because those are the people I’m likely to contact again.

That’s the direction I wish nostr would go with contacts, instead of trying to track followers and follower counts.

May I present our design solution to this problem!

There are 4 types of relationships you can have with someone on #nextblock.

Strangers (everyone when you first encounter them)

Contacts (accounts you've manually added to your contact book) ▶️ this is what we currently think as the list of people they are following on Nostr

Neighbors (accounts added to your Neighborhood - a self-curated feed) ▶️ the number of neighborhoods that your account has been added to is better than what we currently think as how many people follow you

- side note you can hop into other people's neighborhoods! So getting added to popular neighborhoods gets you more attention.

Nextdoor Neighbors (only 21 accounts you've added to your Block) ▶️ homage to OG social media apps where we got to see our favs first when we login.
