I actually used DosBox last month to play Buck Rogers: Countdown To Doomsday. Love old ass PC games.

Discovered the DOS modders a few years ago, and thought "oh wow, this is pretty big". Biggest one that I noticed was for Doom.
Yeah, Doom is probably the biggest. There are communities for Prince of Persia, Commander Keen. Transport Tycoon is mostly around OpenTTD, Civilization is I think FreeCiv.
