Hard to say… my main issue with any of the icy moons is that their subsurface oceans have no real way for energy from the sun to find its way down to support life.

If it does exist it would have to be on the subsurface ocean floors around hydrothermal vents which basically limits it to extremophiles.

That counts, doesn’t have to be intelligent. Stuff lives in complete darkness all the time.

I agree, I’m in the camp of it’s probably out there in many places but is limited to simple organisms like it was on earth for a couple billion years before our soup decided it wanted to become more structured.

Absolutely, it’s gotta be out there IMO. Estimating how frequently it happens and how long it lasts when it does is basically impossible with the amount of info we currently have.
