Supporting Open Source mining development meanwhile playing the Bitcoin lottery is irrational?
If enough of us do it blocks will be found.
the lottery part is irrational. yes, blocks would be found, but the expected value of playing the game is negative
Not in decentralization terms, and not in developing Open Source mining hardware/software through grassroots crowd sourced volunteers.
Satoshi even predicted as such.
But yes your economic benefit is expected to be negative, like all lottery games - except this one isn't rigged.

You make the effort to help the most important thing of our time to save 200$ by skipping some dinners out and 3$ a month in electricity bills by being careful with your lights and then you have free lottery on top of that with some actual chances to win ( 1 in 12k in a year)
