Yeah, I used to have one that would hammer on a metal stove pipe that was running next to my bedroom ... at 5AM every morning.
Shooting at it with a slingshot while in the buff didn't help either.

My "nature's alarm clock" was brown with a curved beak. A few years later, I saw an illustration of it under a threatened species list 🤣 Oops!

The good news is, I loaded the slongshot with large marbles. I didn't want to kill it, but only to make hammering on loose metal a bit uncomfortable. It would watch the marble approach, then fly away at the last second. I had no chance of hitting it ever.
