How do so many of you have 20k+ followers?

Dunno, according to that I have 1.2k
But it's just the same few dozen folks who actually engage with my notes.
I'm at 1.9k. mostly the same 2 dozen of people who engages too but there's a lot of lurkers.
Tho Reaching 20k doesn't seem like a possibility to me within this decade. I have no idea how so many people reached that already. Even if we were to learn 3/4 are bots 5k following is still impressive from my perspective.
Compare the numbers with those on npub.world it removes a lot of the bots from follow counts.
I go from over 4k to closer to 3k.
It's probably a combo of bots, and dead npubs who left or lost their keys.
Yeah according to that I have around 800. My old npub has 1700.
I'm sure out of my theoretical 3k a good chunk are dead keys too. A lot of people drop off Nostr after a short time. I regularly interact with far less than that. Dozens of us! 😂
I have 542 followers.... I haven't had any idea since I use Amethyst and it just keeps starting over the count from zero randomly 🤣 clearly I'm tiny compared to those others!!

I can't fathom 20+k followers.
There's almost no way it's real but I wonder if people bot their own accounts or if they got "attacked" by bots.
I got attacked a lot here on nostr. But you will get used to it . Just don't give a fuck and keep going. Do what you love. With the people you like and love. Keep building and just have fun during the day and night 🫂 it's not about the followers. I just want to have fun all day 👌

He said himself that some of the information is certainly off. I believe the backend is a work in progress while the frontend is more polished with fewer tweaks, at least by what I saw him say.
A lot of the 20k+ follower accounts are in the onboarding list for primal. They get highlighted during the setup process and so get a huge boost to their follower numbers.
I'm on #Amethyst only and I tried a couple of clients. But you know me i only use 1 npub when i use nostr and have the time 👌 soow over 17k are bots or fake/alts npubs ?

Npub.world does a good job filtering out bots, it seems like it has more accurate counts. A telling things about the profilestr site is that it shows about 13k active users, but some people have follow counts double that. It's definitely still counting bots in the follow count.
