Just listened to Saifedean Ammous’ The Bitcoin Standard podcast episode number 159 called “Fiat Food with the Meat Mafia” about eating a carnivore diet with zero greens. I’m trying to wrap my head around why eating zero greens/vegetables (organic spinach, broccoli, eggplant, etc.) is good. Can anyone speak on both sides of this? Saifedean spoke of the benefits, but are there any negative consequences that do or could arise from eating only a carnivorous diet?
Discussion
Yeah, i can’t logically see an all meat zero greens the best thing for most people. Genetics of each individual needs to be taken into account
I know he discounts science journals due to being incentivized with fiat flawed funding methods, but I can’t imagine there isn’t a single, well-researched paper that didn’t meet the cut. He did speak highly of Western A. Price though.
I went carnivore 3 or 4 months ago or so because of everything I read about here I started doing research. I felt great and quickly lost about 12 lbs in 4 weeks (luckily I was getting ready for a cut anyway). It does come with an adjustment period from a body, routine, and social standpoint, but it was a great trial experience for me. I’ve started to reintroduce more foods (while limiting carbs) as I’ve found it very difficult to maintain socially but could see myself going back to being full carnivore again in the near future. It gave me new sense kf clarity of how terrible fiat foods were for me.
That’s a great POV to hear from you first hand. I’d be considered about how it could affect the kidneys. Did you happen to get regular blood checks before, during, and after that period?
I coincidentally did just beforehand but haven’t tested since. The test was before I even knew I would try going carnivore so next time I do it I’ll be more intentional with my testing. There’s a lot of testimonials with people sharing their tests online though. Dr. Ken Berry, Dr Shawn Baker, and Dr. Paul Saladino were all channels I referenced when learning more.
I'm reading the Unsettling of America by Wendell Berry right now and one thing he points out is that that by removing the human from the process and focusing only on the inputs and outputs, efficiency and productivity, we get unintended consequences. Such as how a totally sterilized system which removes all trace of all disease would also remove any opportunity to build disease resistance in human beings.
Not to mention the how of it. The traces of antibiotics that disrupt your gut microbiota, the trace levels of pesticide and plastics of the packaging, etc.
When it comes to animals and meat, there's at least another biological system in all its complexity dealing with all of that shit first, and what you get out the other side is more pure food than the alternative, eating the plants directly.
Hey #[2], I listened to your podcast that you published recently 3 weeks ago (per my note #[7], but you weren’t here at the time). Can you elaborate and show any papers, articles, data on this topic? I really want to understand how solely eating a carnivorous diet is possible. Do you believe there is any place in a diet to eat some vegetables/fruits at all? For example, spinach or bananas?
