Sucks we sort of have to learn it from scratch every generation. My parents are wonderful, but my dad didn't really have reliable parents and my mom is special in her own way, but I'm trying the partial inverse Cramer rule in some aspects of my parenting.

True. My most useful questions to myself when raising my kids were:
1. How would I hope my Heavenly Father would treat me if I were in the same spot as my kids?
2. Are my actions teaching my kids to find comfort or dread in the concept of a Heavenly Father?
That you care about doing good means you’re already doing great!
You raise an important thing that guides me that comes up in my bible study all the time. Our Father in Heaven loves us like children and we are all children by comparison and less than, even when we are our worst, he forgives and loves. Thanks for sharing this.
