This npub has seen no net-growth in a year.

There's simply no way for me to break through the ceiling. Demotivating.

Still appreciate it

There is a handful of people who appreciate it and I mostly continue on for them. 🫂

What do you mean growth?

Followers. Views. Responses. You name it. Stuck in place, for a year, on all accounts.

was not able to open nostr.link long note of urs even though i have theforest relay as READ

Which client?

nostrudel browser - it happens on other long notes also except which ar elocal cahched

issue in here not in nostrudel for any long note

nostrapp.link

Ah, weird. Maybe I should include an habla link, next time. 🤔

The world just isn't ready for Stella. Shame really.

What ceiling?

The gatekeeping ceiling.

Do you have multiple accounts?

Yes, I have dev account that matches my GitHub account nostr:npub1l5sga6xg72phsz5422ykujprejwud075ggrr3z2hwyrfgr7eylqstegx9z and lots of test and automation npubs.

Larger accounts combine business and personal. The other thing, I would point out is that nostr is mostly men. Men in relationships tend to not follow women en masse. I don’t want to explain to my wife, why I am scrolling past a picture of a woman in a bikini. The flip side is you probably have a larger share of interactions with the women who are here.

I like the quality of interactions on nostr. Enjoy nostr while it’s small.

I had to split my dev account off because this one has so many blocks on it and then people didn't see my release notices.

The growth happens within

need more users to come is why, get back to the workshop lassie

I've been working 10-hour days, for weeks, at my day job. Too burnt out, to build.

I've been posting, at least, but it has so little effect.

And that is no explanation for why everyone else's moves along, but mine stays still.

Mine is particularly and chronically dead.

it is certainly an explanation, the value of a fraction varies a lot depending on the denominator, which is a hidden number somewhere between 20-50k users

you need to hire some of Soros psychological manipulation consultants to make people obsessively curious to use nostr and the swarming squealing beatlemania will be upon us

I'm afraid that I am the polar opposite of Soros.

I'll try lighting a candle and praying for Divine Intervention for my New Evangelism effort.

In the span where I gained 50 follows, other people gained 5000 or 50000 follows. You're saying that only 1 out of 1k or 10k newbies are interested in what I post?

Unlikely.

I think it's because I tend to get lots of replies, but few or no reposts or quotes.

Your posts don't seem like they're meant for the widest of audiences. Follower count, shmollower shmount

Yeah, but some proportion of the arriving audience greater than zero would be appreciated.

People keep telling me that the problem is that nothing I post could be of any interest to new arrivals, so they all actively avoid me, but I don't think that is true.

No good theories here. I don't actually know of ... any new arrivals now that I think about it.

They come, see a bunch of Bitcoin posts and dev techy blah blah and then leave again.

I'm also blocked by so many people that I get buried in the group blocks and put on the naughty lists, for insufficient shitposting.

ez way to get followers is to bribe someone to get into the Primal onboarding lists and get autofollowed by default by newnpubs created there. let's call it Primal Privilege.

I was trying to avoid bringing that up, lest they deprivilege me even harder, in retribution.

manynpubs onboard through that client so the people on the onboarding lists are boosted af (i'm one of them, for now lol). if giga-npubs don't repost you it's nearly impossible to be seen by new folks. nothing new under the sun, basically what you've been saying here for a while. fwiw you're one of my favorite people on the nostr and i admire and respect your work.

I guess I'm part of the #NostrUnderground.

I think the little growth I've had was from the Brave Few, who migrated from Primal to Jumble.

Yay fake followers to boost a number that doesn't matter. The primooool privilege.

Follower counts are fake anyways mostly bots and dead npubs. Especially if you are using primal or Nostr.Band. npub.world gives more accurate numbers.

For example:

FWIW, I used to follow you. You brought mostly political posts and complaining to my feed, so I stopped. Try being funny sometimes. Grumpy complaining about politics isn't interesting.

I don't think I would add much, by just posting the same stuff everyone else does. Other people are much better, at being funny and silly, all day.

But there aren't many people adept at being not-funny, all day. That requires much more effort and knowledge.

I think being not funny all day describes most people actually, it's the default 😂 Humour is a skill most people don't have. That's why it is highly valued in social situations, dating, etc. Any good group of friends I have had long term, online or IRL have humour and playful banter at the core, not serious discussion all the time.

Interesting, that you think I'm serious all of the time, really. I'm actually known for my sardonic, impromptu wit, but maybe it's too dry and dark for you. Humor is ubiquitous, but highly assortative.

Well, that is fine. My particular complaint is not that people who find me off-putting don't see me, but that it's so difficult for me to reach new people who might enjoy my writing.

Interestingly, the comment you're replying to was regarding the world in general, but you made it all about yourself. Nevermind my advice then, and continue on as you are, even though by your own admission in the OP it's not getting the results you are looking for.

This was my response to your general statement.

"Humor is ubiquitous, but highly assortative."

That means:

Most people think of themselves as humorous, but humor doesn't translate well between different demographics, so most people think most other people aren't humorous, but that their friends are very humorous.

In other words:

You think I am not funny, but that you are funny.

I think the exact opposite.

And we are both correct.

Because math.

I do agree with you, that your brand of humor is considered funny by a broader swathe of the general population, than mine is. But mine is heavily-overrepresented online, so that shouldn't necessarily be what is holding me back.

And now, it is your turn to respond that I didn't need to write an essay and ain't nobody got time to read all that and what math am I referring to, and etc.

You're right, this is boring 😂

I jacked the nerdiness way up.

But, here's the thing: other people reading that are like

I'm trying to find That Person. That's my target readership.

Are you here, That Person?

Agree about npub.world.

No one likes to hear whining every day LOL.

Once in a while perhaps. But not all the time. Toxic energy is out and I always disengage esp rage bait 😂

Lol, random cats have more followers than me.

Good grief. Even lower than mine. 🫣

Endless growth on an organic network like Nostr doesn't make much sense. I like it to real life—how many relationships can you really cultivate, and can you grow that indefinitely while maintaining the quality? Do you want strong relationships with a stable following or no relationship with a large and ever growing following?

I think you get more value from the former on Nostr, and more from the latter on Twitter.

I had it on Twitter, too. Ironically, due to being chronically shadow-banned.

what the ceiling?

The PoW ceiling. The ceiling of how much reach I can get without anyone with a megasized npub actively promoting me, or being on The Recommendation List.

I've been slowly inching forward, through sheer force of will, but this is the end of the sidewalk.

Peaking in highschool can be hard to deal with.

what does net-growth look like to you and what does it mean to you and your following?

6K is quite a lot of a following on nostr. But the question is are any of those are real and active?

Perhaps not.

Are you real? That would be at least one real person.

It's all unreal till it becomes too real then follow count is least of our worries fren.

Ouroboros human centipede.
