It’s a bit of a learning curve. The bond invoice (if you’re an order taker) usually lasts 3 minutes (I think). But because of Lightning routing and the fact that Tor is slow, sometimes you can pay the bond but it won’t “show up” right away in RoboSats.

If the invoice expired before your payment arrived, the sats *will* return to your wallet.

If the sats arrived in time to pay the bond, it would have opened the order on RS. If you had thought the invoice failed and closed out the browser, then what would have happened is the seller would join and wait for you to submit an invoice for payout, but if you don’t, the order expires and you lose the bond.

Once you get familiar with it, it (usually) works pretty smoothly.

There are many moving parts, and with a highly private and decentralized system it can be trickier than the seamless UX of something like CashApp or Strike.

But those sats are soooo worth it haha

There’s an incredibly helpful SimpleX chat group for support. The coordinators are usually active there and can help you out if you get stuck with an order.

That’s brilliant. Thank you. I use it over tor on nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll so that could be an issue. Unfortunately I didn’t get the sats back. But I’ll just replace the sats and try again 🙏

Any time! Hope it goes smoothly and say the word if you get stuck 🤝

To avoid the issue above, one can activate telegram notifications so that you are informed at all time about the status of the order without stressing too much with tor browser 😉

Great advice. Do you know if there’s a SimpleX version of this in the works? Thought I heard whispers but then couldn’t find anything

For SimpleX I have created this one:

https://github.com/lft3t8bx/Robosats-Orderbook-Alert-Bot-for-SimpleX-Chat

But it is not for trade notifications.

I think nostr:npub1v3tgrwwsv7c6xckyhm5dmluc05jxd4yeqhpxew87chn0kua0tjzqc6yvjh is working for NOSTR notifications.

Right now If you use the android app, there are inbuilt notifications over tor, this is probably the safest approach we have right now.

Oh I’ve seen this! It’s a sweet project.

Didn’t know about the notifications on Android. Would they still work on GrapheneOS?

they do! Koala made an impressive job on that. Make sure to upgrade to the latest version of the app 😉

Awesome, thanks so much!

I love seeing the RS community starting to have more of a presence on nostr.

Do you know if the reckless leader has an npub yet? I’ve followed the official account for a while but they’re not active these days.

Also, this was an awesome bot, that just posted every order to Nostr whenever one was created — not that I needed to stack any more irresponsibly — but I heard it was too costly to maintain: nostr:npub1kdkl4prkt7jmy8cdzdutqv8988vekl93nj4r25zpqpa5uacm9jkqnsjzq5

Still hoping it’s creator is out there; I have a feeling enough robo-Nostriches would chip in to support it ⚡️

Although I will say our Aussie friend’s creation does the trick nicely 🔥

Edit - mixed up who’s building what. The SimpleX one is yours!! I know that 😉

Where can I find the telegram link / invite to view the status of my order?

I'm just coming across Robosats now and trying to wrap my head around how to use it. Is this an easy thing to do? How often are you using this?

Looks very easy! Try this

Yes! This is what I started watching. A stupid question, but say I want to purchase 500 dollars worth of bitcoin. I select fiat payment method of strike (and, is this safe?). I then use my alby lightning wallet tk “lock” up the funds for the transaction. Then do I pay from strike afterwords when it goes through? And then say I want to take that bitcoin from the alby channel and put it into cold storage. What is the best practice to coordinate all of this? I’ve never done it before so I thank you for having the patience to put up with my ignorance here

Re: paying with strike — yea, if that’s the payment method you chose, then that’s how you would send fiat to your trading partner.

If by safe you mean private, then yes, relatively so. There’s no public correlation of your fiat spend to your Bitcoin stack. Of course Strike knows you sent money to someone, and that person knows of the trade, but its far safer than a centralized exchange which can be leaked/hacked and tell the whole world of criminals that you have a fat stack of sats and make a good target for home invasion and robbery.

If by safe you mean “avoid scammers” then yes, again, relatively so. The escrow system punished bad actors and it seems to do a decent job on that.

To go from Alby to cold storage, anything swapping service that offers Lightning and on-chain would do the trick. Aqua Wallet, Boltz, Flyp.me all seem pretty solid

Thank you brother 🤘🏼

Is this how you personally purchase your btc?

Another question: receiving the purchased btc via lighting to alby, and then sending to strike, and then to cold storage. Does this make sense? Where is the weak link in this? What would be a better way to do this? One could also just have the bitcoin traded/bought on RS sent via on-chain (but that does have the swap and miner fees included, correct?).

You don't need to go through Strike here, just swap from lightning on Alby to onchain

You can send from your onchain balance, yes. But to send from onchain to lightning, you need to use third party swap service. Soon implemented inside the Hub!

That would be very nice

That will be very nice!

You can also... You know... Open an outbound channel.

Does that close a channel or is it a submarine swap?

How would you send from Strike to cold storage?

You can close channel, but probably better option is to swap with some 3rd party like Boltz or Robosats.

PS From the next release you should find inhouse swaps in the Hub 😉

Yep, used boltz very easy.

And hell yeah looking forward to that update! When can we expect that?

Hopefully this month!

Strike will send to an on chain address if needed, but their fee structure is weird.

Agree Boltz and robosats are 🔥

And absolutely stoked to hear about the swaps in Hub. That’s a great development

Thanks Boston, appreciate your help dude!

Any time brother

Don’t send your KYC-free sats to strike! That will auto-kyc them and associate them with your identity. Replace strike with Boltz (or apparently you can swap directly within Alby)
