Ok, this question has been on my mind and I haven’t seen a sufficient answer. I read that the Bitcoin core is maintained by a team of people working on the code.

What is to keep them from getting ‘influenced’ by nefarious outsiders?

Not trying to FUD. Just a question from a pleb.

I'm pretty sure they have but bitcoin has a Consensus mechanism that changes need to be made by majority.

Miners have to validate changes by updating the node, or not. More than 85% of miners needed to apply forks.

Yes i believe changes are made by updating the node

The fact that changes are looked at by a large group of people, very few download the latest versions, and nothing gets into “the network” unless the nodes install it.

Developers don’t have special power, they are one in a handful of groups who have varying degrees of influence. But ultimately node runners determine what is running on the network.

whoever is trying to nefariously influence Bitcoin by going after the people working on the code are seriously misguided and have a fundamental lack of understanding of how Bitcoin works.

we send them a copy of the white paper and remind them to do their homework. Also, extra credit for reading up on the block size wars.
