I'm almost there. Can't wait for my pixel to get here.
Must say its pretty great having conversations and surfing the internet and NOT getting targeted ads popping up.
So you did it
I've played around with grapheneos and calyxos in the past. Also nearly bought one of he purism devices but they seemed expensive at the time. I'm now upgrading to a pixel 9a - same as you. Some good sales on due to Thanksgiving π€ managed to bag one for Β£319 GBP
Yep, that's what I bought too. π
MashaAllah! There's like five of us that just got the pixel 9a. We definitely should exchange notes as I have no idea or plan on the best way to use it. I just know I'm not logging into anything Google on it, going to be using it for Bitcoin and nostr stuff mainly
KeyChat group?
I'm down!
I got an invite from you, but it was kinda broken. Like raw JSON format or something. Honestly, I haven't really warmed up to KeyChat yet. As long as they don't support native Lightning with NWC, I don't think that'll change anytime soon.
Who are the others?
And by the way, you can still use the Google Play Store and all the apps in it. Log in anonymously, and you gotta put the sketchy apps into their own silo using secondary profiles. For work reasons, I still have WhatsApp on mine, for example, but if you properly isolate it from the rest of the system, I don't see any issues with that.
It's nicely explained here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo9qHqTDcgM
Congratulations π
Great choice
Which device?
9a
So... Google π€
do you know of another device which supports #GrapheneOS ?
These are the ones supported right now: https://grapheneos.org/build#build-targets
No, I don't. I was just teasing the "fuck google" part π«£
yeah, it's a dilemma, but every monopoly is evil, so what's the alternative?
Pfffffff
I suggest you use is that multiple profile feature. I think that's a very interesting part of graphene OS.
Right, I'm setting it up already.
Well done!
What was the transition like? I am thinking of switching but I don't have a test phone LOL π¬
Last thing I want is to go haywire then kaput. Unlike desktop you can spin vm or vb to test OS and get the feel for it π₯Ί
The transition was super easy and pretty quick. Even for someone like me, who's bricked a phone before while flashing it. You can follow this video here. It's eight months old, but everything still works exactly the same.

You can't do it with just any phone though. I just grabbed a new phone and jumped in blind. These are the phones that are supported right now:

Thinking of switching.
What are the drawbacks/deal breakers?
So far, I haven't really spotted any downsides or deal breakers. Everything's been working great up to now. Except for one or two little apps that are just poorly coded, and I can totally do without them anyway.
But instead, there's a ton of advantages.
Will install on a spare pixel π
