Nostr celebrity #[0] brought up a great point on Twitter - we should switching from sharing npubs to sharing NIP05 aliases.

So for example: https://iris.to/andre@zbd.ai

Or my profile: https://iris.to/rockstar@snort.social

I hope more clients will start supporting these links. So far Iris seems to be the only one doing it. Otherwise search using alias is how you find people.

Also, I saw that #[1] has https://iris.to/sirius

It's direct redirection for when domain matches. I'm hoping Martti will make this publicly accessible soon.

Also just stop calling them NIP05 … nobody has any clue what that means outside of nostr - just call it alias or something else

I think it's because searching in nostr is very hard right now. You can't query a relay and tell it to return a profile with a nip05, to do that you'd have to have a database of enough pubkeys to find them that way. So, as you mentioned you could consider sharing links that go to a site you know will work with a direct link. That way newbies can start with that client and/or oldsters know what you mean. Otherwise ya, without a link, very hard to find someone by their nip05 with a fresh client. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here..

Oh, just realized.. ofc you don't need a database as you can just read the nostr.json from the address.. duh. Anyway, yes, we should do this more.

Building up a distributed and cryptographically-provable authentication system is what I’m most interested in over the next 5 years. Vision is to make passwords a thing of the past. Sign into the session instead. I feel like the Bitcoin network is the place to build this.
