interesting you've posted this 🤔
Stumbled across two of Peter Kingsley's books, who writes about the presocratic philosophers.
Saved to watch later
This intrigues me. Peter Kingsley, eh. Is there a shorter audio thing I can enjoy, or just long books?
I haven't found any success on youtube, but "In The Dark Places of Wisdom" is pretty readable, even if written oddly 🤔
I often combine physical reading with Natural Readers, a service that reads pdfs outloud. That helps me get through more books
I paid 100 bucks for a year of speechify...what a scam.
Both posts are interesting to me, for same reason. Recently learned a tiny bit of philosophy history and looking to know a bit more. Thanks
How have you found speechify a scam? For me, Natural Readers' plus plan does what I need, and I used it for a year. There's even a "NotebookLM" option that turns your reading into an AI podcast, which is decent.
Had trouble with some things, didn't love it even when it worked, and gpt can do it for no additional charge (I think)
It's a good presentation. He talked a lot less about math than I was expecting, but I got the impression that it was more of a giant segway into future presentations or some work revelations. It's definitely worth a listen, even if just for a dose of his childlike wonder, to lift the spirits 😅
I think its important to cultivate that experience wherever we can 🙂
Ah, Edward Frenkel! Generally great to listen to
And there it is again, another sync - bringing up Jung in relation to the presocratics. 🤔
Quite odd, to see similar base ideas being revolved around by different individuals, and their specfic unfolding driven from their background.
I don't want this to come across as strange but thats provably unavoidable... do you remember when I said everything converges in one space & I felt like I was walking into this conclusion from the opposite direction of most? ...I've been so psyched lately 😅
Probably* ... but maybe provably, too ðŸ«
Fuzzy, but I remember. Missing the context of when you said it, if you can unpack that more 👀 i guess it wasn't as resonant then as it is now
We were discussing the idea of consciousness as a wave, the repetitive patterns across scientific disciplines, and that itchy feeling I have about synchronicities being something more than awareness.
...or that's what I was talking about. We both tend to get a little weird in those type of conversations, so I'm not 100% sure we were talking about the same things. 😅
Speaking of synchronicities... funny that Jung suddenly the thread, yeah? That's beautifully synchronistic. Unironically.
I think those conversations spiral around, in a fun way :) anchor points seem different, but on the same theme.
Jung's been on my periphery long enough that I think its about time i start diving in more seriously
YouTube is being a bitch. It won't allow playback on other apps...
Its the third video so far this happened to. How do I pry a link out of this post?
This is a great presentation. I try to make a similar point in my book The Ancient Way of The Mind
