I just hibernated my linkedin account. I honestly didn't know you could do that.
I kept the account "just in case I might need it" because I've heard horror stories that people without linkedin are instantly screened out of job openings.

Mmmmmm. Might nuke mine.
Need to do this as well. I suspect it’s a constant source of spam.
Ive been activly job hunting though...mmmmm.
Tough spot, seems LinkedIn is needed in the corporate tunnel sadly.
I only hibernated mine because I don't see myself job hunting for a good while. Even if I need a new gig, I think by now I should be able to do without LI.
But if I were you, I would definitely try without it unless you are desperate.
Personal website, CV pdf made with latex, public portfolio/PoW (github, etc), directly writing emails to companies and most importantly: networking.
Im not super keen on current day job but im also not desperate. I have a protfoilio site. And im starting to build out a github (ngl i need to finish some projects I started but its there)
I didn't know you can do that. Yeah tech job hunting without linked in seems impossible.
The need for linkedin for any profession is bullshit.
Bullshit as in "unfair/unethical" or as in "not true"?
All options.
Well it's certainly not the case anywhere but if a large % of employers have that bad practice, it's very inconvenient.
I agree that employers can have that power, but in my opinion, if you're good at what you do, opportunities won't be missed. I never had linkedin and I was never asked why.
I didn't even finish college, and today ironically I work at a university lol.
It depends on the job market. If I was desperate I could justify the privacy sacrifice for a greater chance. Of course it's preferable to go without it.
I actually started out with linkedin and at the time it was very hard to find some willing to give me a first chance.
On this point I have to agree with you. 🤙
It's because of linked in I've interviewed several times at every fang company. They likely never would have given me the time of day without it. Each time they reached out through linked in.
This is certainly a personal matter, I don't want to work in fang and much less in any company that requires some kind of title from me. 🤙
Reminds me to delete my account there.
I deleted my LinkedIn and all other Big Tech accounts the day BigTech deplatformed Parler and Trump. Turns out I don't need them at all, anywhere. . . other than a $20/month cell service. Yes, I even knocked my cell payment as low as possible to make sure Big Tech gets as little money from me as possible.
If a company is locked into Microsoft's LinkedIn, to that extent, with lack of ambition to use other sources, do you really want to work for them?
For me personally? Absolutely not.
Other people that might be desperate to pay their bills and feed their families? Unfortunately yes.
Depending on the region, job market might be harsh, moving away might not be practical or possible.
