This is said to be the last photo of Julian Assange, one of the original Cypherpunks, a person of integrity and a person I have always admired.

Maybe some of you only know Julian from Wikileaks, but he was a computer genius, a true Cypherpunk. He was co-author of Rubberhorse, the precursor of TrueCrypt, developer of FreeBSD and PostgreSQL, he also wrote one of the first port scanners, Strobe, if not the first, and hacked the MILNET network (secret data network used by the US military), among many other things, surely one of the best hackers in history.

Why do you think he founded Wikileaks? Because he knew all the miseries of governments.

Julian has given his life for freedom, truth and justice, he does not deserve to end up like this.

What can we do? I don't know, but it seems that without violence nothing is achieved.

I don’t know either, most likely nothing. But we can (try to) follow the principles he laid out in the early days and never forget what the man stood for.

Open confrontation doesn't seem to be wise. We should strive to become less easy to

contol and (by using the power of math) to sidestep their control. We need to become proficient in privacy and teach others as good as we can.

Many people are waking up from their very personal Matrix these days. Assagnes sacrifices are without comparison, but it means nothing if we don't channelize peoples indignation into an productive outcome.

IMHO it's deeply worrying to see the glorification of censor-resistant technologies, while privacy (anonymity) is an afterthought at best.

BTC, lightning network and Nostr are all very dangerous to use. It's hard to not shoot yourself in the foot w.r.t. privacy.

What's censorship resistance if you still need to obey the rules? You'll be identified and brought to 'justice'.

CT:s are increasing the size of transactions significantly, so there needs to be a breakthrough in that technology. Scripting is more difficult with mw, like enabling the lightning network. The rationale is to move privacy features on higher layers, enabled with Bolt12, Federated chaumian mints etc.

The funny thing is that privacy features were both born out of the bitcoin protocol and considered for it. So they are deeply concerned, but also extremely careful because of the trade-offs. Implementing a whole host of technologies at the same time will have all kinds consequences.

Wouldn't your VPN provider be able to identify you? If the VPN provider wants to continue business in the jurisdiction that is asking for your identity, you should assume it will play by the 'rules'.

Use a VPN which accepts anonymous payments, anonymous accounts, that doesn't log your activity, have external independent audits, operating in safe jurisdictions.

To know the heart of a US politician and the integrity of a news media outlet look no further than their stance (or lack thereof) on Julian Assange and Eric Snowden…perhaps the 2 greatest heroes of freedom in the last 2 decades.

It’s easy to speak of fighting for freedom but these 2 incredible humans took the risk and have paid an incredible price for the freedom of others…think of them when u quietly rage against the elite…think of them when u opt out of the system…think of them when u give to Caesar what is his while quietly doing everything u can to undo his corrupt system🌅
