Relays actually eat through a lot of bandwidth considering it's just json notes, seems strange tbh 🤔

Greedy clients

Greedy and possibly malicious

What kind of bandwidth? Text really shouldn't be much.

In the gigs per day

Hmm now I want to install ntop

Lol, my relay has reliably exceeded 30TB/month for all of 2023. It is a bit wild and inefficient.

How many users would you guess?

😵

I’m seeing the same thing but we also have 13 relays so far.

How much data will Nostr nodes need to store in the future to keep a decently long history?

Big Nostr fan but how best to decentralize the storage costs/requirements of all the history? Every user for himself to save all notes on a local node?

Run your own relay, best if you do from home, or you can use relaying.io

Big popular relays are beasts in compute, memory, and storage requirements. Are their good enough decentralizing incentives? ID’s are really easy to spin up but there are real costs to maintaining and keeping note history around long term.
