Tempted to wire the home with cat8 but I know in 2 years this will be ancient tech

Look into just running LUTRON GRX with them (keep them isolated and separate to prevent cross talk or interference) then you can at least power up anything low voltage and have some tx/rx lines π€·ββοΈ
Is that where weβre at now? 20 years ago Cat6 was the up and comer. How far can copper go?
cat5e is my LAN version of duck tape and zip ties. if I can't make it work with cat5e I don't want it.

That's too many cats
It requires special considerations, cat7 would be okay though. Cat8 is a bit more of a headache and worth just saving the sats.
Why more headache?
The connectors are different, I believe. You might be able to use a cat6/7 cable into the wall plates though. I just recall looking into it a year back and 8 had considerations that 5/6/7(e) did not.
Just checked and they are backwards compatible, but the connector itself is bigger and more expensive too.
They seem the same rj45
Yeah, they are rj45, but they are cat8. They are also getting cheaper now days. I also think that the cat8 do not yet have solid standards, but it may not be a huge deal. The cable itself is pricey compared to 6/6a/7, but it is only a one time thing. I just wonder if fiber might be better, all things considered.
