We are now 2 years in to Bhutan's Bitcoin Strategic Reserve experiment.

That means we now hae some good data on how it has affected the economy.

For context: Bhutan have formed a large Bitcoin Strategic Reserve by using their surplus renewable hydropower to mine Bitcoin.

The IMF warned that nations embracing Bitcoin would destabilize their economy, be less effective at attracting foreign direct investment, and endanger their decarbonizing and environmental initiatives.

What does the data say:

1. Bhutan's Bitcoin Strategic Reserve has directly addressed pressing fiscal needs. "In June 2023, Bhutan allocated $72 million from its holdings to finance a 50% salary increase for civil servants"

2. Bhutan was able to "use Bitcoin reserves to avert a crisis as foreign currency reserves dwindled to $689 million"

3. Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in an interview said that bitcoin also "supports free healthcare and environmental projects"

4. Tobgay also said their Bitcoin reserves helped in "stabilizing [the nation’s] $3.5 billion economy"

5. Independent analysts have now said that "this model could attract foreign investment, particularly for nations with untapped renewable resources"

Considering how the IMF analysis was not just wrong, but roughly 180° off target, it begs the question, was the IMF's predictions ever based on data?

Or maybe they just possibly had another agenda in predicting the adverse impact of any nation embracing Bitcoin?

idk if it's related but i put the anti-every-parasite treatment on the #catstr Mochi and he is farty and it smells like something crawled into his ass and died

probably coincidental because i had to leave him outside since his lunchtime and maybe he did eat something nasty while i was away

anyway, the other funny thing is now he's used to sitting near me, he's sitting right on top of my earthing mat cleaning himself while this farting is going on

i strongly suspect that within half an hour to an hour this medicine starts to percolate into his gut and murders everything in his intestines and slowly murders everything attached to his outsides

all good i guess, and tomorrow he will get his nads removed and a general inspection and probably there might be some further recommendations, but i suspect probably nothing major considering the antiparasitic treatment just was given, so everything not caused by parasites will be the things that matter, and i suspect there's probably nothing to be concerned about there

when i was on my way back from Sao Vicente i paused at the supermarket in Ponta Delgada and i was regaled with some amazing photographs and stories about the shopkeeper's 15kg cat, who is not fat, but actually nearly the size of a lynx

which was kinda cool... and i know that the probable daddy of my Mochi who lives next door, is easily 7kg, a big boy, maybe a little fat but more just big

reminds me of stories i heard from people about wild cats in australia reaching sizes near that of a typical border collie... i hope this one grows to be decently big but i expect if i neuter him, he will be more fat than big, but ok

Cryptopistemology

A mashup of crypto- (hidden) and epistemology (the study of knowledge),

There is lots of hidden knowledge encoded in our world that is not easily accessible, due to taboo or simply because it is understudied.

I grew up on the internet thinking all of the world’s knowledge is on there to learn. I quickly realized how wrong this was.

A good example is street smarts. You can’t really pick this up in a book or from YouTube videos. Some knowledge can only be gained through experience on the ground, immersed in the complexity of life.
