We are building a social media app that uses Nostr. It has an Attention Marketplace letting people set the price for their attention and advertisers can pay them directly to watch ads. (Opt-in) We think this ad experience is the future of Nostr. We plan to build it, test it, and make it open source for all apps using Nostr to plug in.

We have been thinking about all of the features of our app for a year and believe it can solve other problems we experience on the protocol and legacy social media. The special sauce is our business model but lots of other cool features we're excited about. We talk about it now on our pod, which is generally about Bitcoin adoption. Appreciate you guys trying to move the space forward. However I have no interest as do many people I know being bombarded with advertises regardless of getting sats for it. Just not interested. It’s a run for the hills from me

You don't need to watch them for this business model to work. Only some people need to watch. That's how we'll fund what it costs to run a really cool 🤗 social media app.
Also ads only show every time there is a new block on the Blockchain. About every 10 minutes or so. But again, not everyone needs to watch the ads for this to work.
The cool part though is that if you do participate in the Attention Marketplace every 10 minutes or so you'll make sats to zap out. That way you don't have to dip into your own stack when you're playing on social media. This is a circular economy!
I don't like it because I don't want regular people's posts to compete with paid advertising. I prefer UX where ads are clearly divided from content
I agree with you. It feels like I'm being tricked. That's why we think the transparency in NextBlock's Attention Marketplace will recalibrate the relationship between advertiser and consumer. It's based on respect and honesty. You're in control of your attention. No algorithm while you scroll and no ads unless you're getting paid what you asked for.
