I never did, we don't celebrate that in Czechia. But any carnival with candy and booze should be quite popular anywhere.๐

Ah! That's a shame. It's one of the few holidays. Anytime people have an excuse to wear a proper mask/disguise, everyone is just so much more outgoing and fun.
I can't say. In my 20s we used to dress up and go drinking anytime. Especially on St. Nicolaus day (as angels, devils and Nikolaus, 5.12.) and then whole Jan/Feb, that's the carnival season here. In czechia main holiday is 1.11., the day of the dead, and that's a pretty serious and silent one.
