GM!

I just realized that at a BTC price of around $183,150, $1 equals 546 base units and would be considered "dust" under typical conditions.

If BTC goes above $183,150, then $1 worth of bitcoin could be uneconomical to spend, essentially making it dust.

You’re talking about on-chain only, of course. There will always be some amount of unspendable UTXOs. The trick is to keep large enough ones that you won’t end up having to abandon them at some point.

UTXO management is very important. 🫂

And yes, I am specifically talking about on-chain, just a wild thought because we’re not that far off from $183k

Is it possible to see a small UTXO and then send it to a lightning wallet? I realize as im asking - that no because the transaction fee to send it from oncahin to lightning

I would live with that trade off

We are not too far off from seeing people moan about ‘lost’ dust. Sad, because I heard a lot of warnings and how-tos in 2023-2024.

Enter Lightning and msats

It will definitely escalate the importance of lightning!

Didn’t know the dust limit was that high

Spending a P2PKH output takes about 148 vbytes, and at 1 sat/vbyte, the dust limit is 3 × 148 = 444 sats, but with a safety margin, it's set to 546 sats. This is the default dust limit in Core and Knots

What is a base unit?

Some people call them satoshi’s

Other people call them bitcoins

I just refer to them as base units

It is the smallest denomination of BTC on-chain

And here I thought it was some kinda coinbase thing…. So 🤯

After 23 halvings: block reward = 596 sats

We’ll all be dust at that point.

Not if you do good UTXO management 🫡

Consolidate your UTXO’s when fees are low!

You missed my point…

By April 21, 2100 I will be 129 years old.

DUST at that point

A new born will be 75…

lol 😆 your right we will all be dust

GM & PV 🤙🏼🧡🗽

Don’t strand your sats. Sweep up your would-be dust while you can.
