Dethatched my yard today... 24 bags of crud. I swear my lawn was 75% moss. Took me and the entire family almost 8 hours to get done

Wow! Thatβs a good bit of plant matter. Are you able to compost it on site?
The bags suggest that you might be disposing of it elsewhere
Unfortunately we don't have a good space to compost. At least not that much plant matter! I can maybe use 1 bag max. We do plan to see if my sister or anyone else wants any of it before we toss it though
Yep, can confirm it's a lot of work, especially if it's by hand. We do ours most years and usually get a few bags.
We actually had a power rake but there was so much moss everywhere I had to get it up or the seeds will have no chance.
I ran the power rake on the front yard twice and had to go back in by hand.
We hadn't done it for the 3 yrs we lived here and by the looks of it neither had previous owner for some time
