Agree that the context is there, the e tag is a pragmatic way of dealing with it on most clients for the time being.

It also addresses the issue of outdated comments if the publisher ever updated the replaceable event.

I know. I prefer comments not showing up at all if they are out of context

Up to Damus to support that or nip-31, especially Will who is particularly pissed with clients writing kind 1s with just an a-tag

I think these are two separate things; the e vs a tag is not really related to kind:1s replying to non-kind1s, which is the context issue.

e vs a is mainly about the version an event is tagging, which I think it's blown out of proportion honestly, but the NIP already recommends e tagging NIP-33s too 😅
